KDVP Pre-Primary taught on waste reduction

VICTORY PARK – Ditshego House of Laughter in Mooiplas received non-biodegradable waste bottles and goody bags as part of King David Pre-Primary outreach project.

The senior group at the King David Pre-Primary School completed their outreach project of making eco-bricks for Ditshego House of Laughter, a school situated in an informal settlement in Mooiplaas Centurion.

“An eco-brick is a plastic bottle densely packed with a variety of non-recyclable waste and is an exciting way that individuals and communities can reduce the quantity of waste that lands up on landfills,” explained Nirvana Rogers from King David Victory Park.

Ditshego House of Laughter, is a non-profit organisation that was started in 2007. The home serves the community of Mooiplaas, an informal settlement which has no access to the basic services like running water, electricity, sanitation, health care and the unemployment rate being very high. The primary focus of Ditshego is in creating early childhood development environment for the children from the Mooiplaas community.

For the outreach project, the learners were taught that about the errant bits and pieces that land up in our drains, water-courses and ultimately the ocean. And in addition to making the eco-bricks they made, the learners also made goody bags for all of the 101 children at Ditshego which contained a beanie, toys and sweets.
