Suspect tells police he was sent to rob a store

LINDEN – Man hiding in a store found to be a potential criminal.

Police are investigating a case where a man was found with housebreaking implements in a clothing store.

While many prepared themselves for a long weekend, a clothing store was at the centre of a potential criminal incident on 14 June.

Constable Takalani Matumba, spokesperson of Linden Police Station, shared details of the incident.

“The complainant alleged that he was on duty at the store when he noticed a pair of human legs standing behind the clothing rail. The complainant tried to touch the legs and they moved to show that someone was standing behind the rails.”

The manager was immediately alerted of the man and upon his investigation, he found the suspect hiding behind the rail and in possession of scissors, screwdrivers and crowbars.

Matumba went on to say, “When the man was questioned, he explained that he was sent by some people to steal cell phones from the store.”

The suspect was arrested and detained at the Linden Police Station. Police are investigating the matter.
