Empathy is described as the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within their frame of reference, that is, the capacity to place oneself in another’s position.
This must be a very special trait as the world, through all its negativity, has shown that empathy is a trait either few have or many are scared to show they carry. Luckily for our community, there are a valiant few among us who are willing to be the sort of person many can get inspired by. At only 10 years old, Aaron Greenblatt has managed to be the sort of empath even adults can envy by starting his charity, Aaron’s Rock Your Socks.
After hearing about Sole2Sole, a charity started by 11-year-old Dario Gouveia, which collects shoes for underprivileged children, Greenblatt asked himself one simple question, how can you have shoes without socks? And so the Ferndale resident established Aaron’s Rock Your Socks, a charity which has now been running for about two years and has so far managed to raise 75 000 pairs of socks for underprivileged people.
“I feel really happy when I help people and this is something I would continue doing,” he said.
Greenblatt expressed that it really does not matter what your age is, you can still make a difference in people’s lives. He is proud of what he has managed to achieve so far but still looks forward to all the good he still yet to do for those around him. His mother Lee said it is never too early for parents to teach their children about humility, understanding and giving to others.
