Efforts of Westdene residents are appreciated

WESTDENE – Ward councillor appreciates the spirit of community pride in the area.

City Power and Ward 69 councillor address matter of resident fixing pavement by himself.

Ward 69 councillor Genevieve Sherman applauded Westdene resident Frikke Botes for taking initiative and fixing a part of a pavement on Lewes Road that was left unattended to by City Power after work done on a mini substation.

Sherman said, “I’ve been working with residents like Frikke and the Westdene Sophiatown Residents Association for the last two years. As Ward 69 councillor, I value their assistance and input tremendously. They’ve shown nothing but support to date. This ultimately shows a sense of community pride.”

Sherman said the efforts of Botes and those like him will always be celebrated by the City. She said that these activities, projects and initiatives contribute tremendously to nation building and a spirit of national patriotism.

City Power was contacted for comment on the issue and asked questions about what work was done on the mini substation, why the area was left in a messy state and why the mini substation remained unlocked and easily accessible to the public.

Spokesperson for City Power, Isaac Mangena, only responded to the issue of the unlocked mini substation. He stated that it has been locked and secured. He urged members of the public to report any cable theft incident and vandalism of the infrastructure. “The more frequently residents report these incidents, the easier it becomes for City Power to monitor trends in those areas and communities where these crimes take place. This information ensures the correct resources are dispatched to those areas to deal with the matter.”
