Sophiatown police officer’s work results in 331 year prison sentence

SOPHIATOWN – Police officer thanked for his contribution to hefty sentence given to convicted criminal.


Police celebrate 331-year sentence handed down to local criminal.

After being found guilty of 130 counts of various crimes, the Gauteng High Court gave a hefty sentence to the accused. This conviction was due to the hard work of the investigating officer, Sophiatown Police Station’s Captain Seageng.

Spokesperson of the station Captain TJ de Bruyn said they have welcomed the conviction and sentence. He said, “We want to thank Captain Seageng for his amazing work which has resulted in another criminal being removed from the streets.” The station honoured him by presenting him with a certificate of appreciation for his success. District commissioner General Masha was present to hand Captain Seageng his award.

Some of the charges for the convicted criminal were as follows:

  • 4 counts of murder n 11 counts of attempted murder
  • 2 counts of rape
  • 32 counts of housebreaking with intent to commit robbery
  • 35 counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances
  • 24 counts of possession of an illegal firearm
  • 18 counts of possession of illegal ammunition
  • Most notable sentences for the crimes:
  • Murder, two life sentences, and 20 years imprisonment
  • Attempted murder, 63 years imprisonment
  • Rape, a life sentence and 10 years imprisonment

The court stated that the sentences will run concurrently with the 3 life sentences. The convicted man was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
