Local police recently held a joint liquor operation with the Liquor Board, Metro police and security companies.
Known for its busy and activate nightlife, Melville is also known for contravening liquor laws. That is the reason why Brixton Police Station held a liquor operation on the evening of 31 May. According to Jeanette Backhoff, spokesperson for the station, the operation was held with the assistance of the Gauteng Liquor Board, Metro police and security companies.
“The focus was on Melville as we received concerns from the community regarding some of the outlets. The liquor outlets were inspected to see if they comply with the rules and regulations set by the Liquor Board.”
Warrant Officer Cornelius Zeelie led the operation as they went door-to-door to the restaurants and bars.
Backhoff added that they will continue these operations. “We want to thank all role players for their involvement in making the operation a success.”
