Greymont Residents Forum to prioritise the needs of the community and its senior citizens

GREYMONT – Residents to give attention to the senior citizens of the community.

After 18 months of not having a community meeting, the Greymont Residents Forum (GRF) met on 22 May to discuss a range of important issues facing the community.

Topics at the meeting included planning major projects for the year and discussing the finance of the forum. The meeting also gave residents a chance to meet and greet each other. Clive Malherbe founder of the forum said, “We rarely have meetings because we managed to communicate efficiently and effectively via our WhatsApp groups but I released that residents don’t know each other.”

This prompted him to get them together at the Greymont NG Church to introduce themselves to one another.

The forum also discussed and agreed to make the elderly people of Greymont a priority. Malherbe said, “We have a large population of senior citizens living in the area. Many of them live alone and struggle to get things done.”

The forum stated that they will be creating a database of elderly residents and continuously check on them and assist with things they need, such as being taken to the stores to buy groceries. He also said they have opted to help plaster and repaint one retired resident’s wall and he was happy to announce that they already have people willing to do the plastering and painting.

Malherbe also spoke about the plans to get more and new residents in the area to join the forum. He said their addition to the group, through their membership fees, will allow them to increase their expenditure on keeping the community clean and maintained. The forum hires someone to cut grass, trim trees and bushes, remove weeds and paint where necessary. Membership fees contribute to the salary that is paid to the strenuous work done to keep the area looking beautiful.

Malherbe calls on residents to take control of their community by joining the forum.
