De La Salle Holy Cross College hosted their matric dance on the evening of 10 May in the high school hall, which was decorated by the Grade 11 learners during the April school holidays.
The theme for this year was ‘The White Castle of Alice in Wonderland’ and was a very well-kept secret until the night. The Grade 12 learners arrived in style from 6pm on the evening and walked the green carpet, where fellow learners at the school and parents cheered them on and took pictures of the stunning couples. All the current De La Salle Holy Cross matric girls wore white, which is a long-standing tradition at the school.
The hall was also used for the Come Back Give Back Dance, which is held in aid of charity and was attended by past learners, parents, and friends. Lydia Orsmond from De La Salle Holy Cross College explained that,
“The Come Back Give Back Dance is traditionally held the night after the matric dance, so the beautifully-decorated hall can be used for another function. All the guests are asked to bring a blanket to donate and the proceeds are distributed.”
The decorations in the hall were inspired by the pieces and board of a chess game, which seemed to be built entirely of white marble.
On the evening, the Grade 11 learners, wearing black and white, served as stewards and stewardesses for the attendees. The wonderful night was filled with glitz, glamour, happiness and smiles all around.
