Suspected car thieves arrested in Westdene

WESTDENE – A car stolen in April was found by the police in May.

Police arrest four after being found in possession of a stolen car.

While many were getting a good night’s rest, Sophiatown police were out and about tackling crime. On the evening of 12 May at around 11.15pm officers of the station arrested four suspects they found in a stolen vehicle. Spokesperson for the station, Captain TJ De Bruyn, shared details of the arrests.

“Members of Sophiatown Police Station were doing routine patrols in Westdene when they noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area. The vehicle had no front registration plate and was stopped.”

Once the vehicle was stopped, officers checked the registration plate at the back of the car and found it to be a false number plate, according to De Bruyn. “With further investigation it was found that the vehicle was reported stolen in Florida in April of this year.”

The four suspects were immediately arrested and detained. They have been charged with being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
