Police busts robbers in Windsor

WINDSOR – Police have confirmed that three of the five suspects involved in a robbery were arrested on the scene.

Five suspects who apparently planned to rob someone at a local shopping centre failed when police noticed the strange antics of a vehicle in Risidale.

On 7 May, Linden Police Station‘s crime prevention unit were patrolling near a shopping centre in Risidale when they spotted a suspicious vehicle driving around the area at a high speed. According to Constable Takalani Matumba, spokesperson for the station, there were five men occupying the vehicle. “The crime prevention members started to chase the car from Risidale until it reached Windsor West. The police tried to stop the vehicle but instead they pointed at the police with a firearm and didn’t stop.”

The officers then exited their vehicle and shot at the suspects’ car to stop it. Matumba said, “The car lost control and hit the pavement. All five suspects got out of the car and tried to run away on foot.”

As they tried to make their getaway, one of the suspects dropped a plastic bag, filled with money. It is alleged that this money was stolen from someone at the shopping centre. Matumba stated that the amount of money would be confirmed as soon as it was counted.

The two suspects that managed to escape are still at large but police continue to investigate the matter.
