Fresh off the exciting celebrations of their 50th birthday, Northcliff High School is now turning their attention and energy towards their major production for this year as they will be hosting their production of the iconic Disney movie High School Musical.
Northcliff High’s highly acclaimed musical producer, Nick Jourdan, will be leading this production. This one will be his 37th production for the school but is still aware that a lot of challenges need to be overcome. He said, “This year we have one of the youngest and largest casts I’ve worked with and that comes with a few challenges.”
For those that have been living under a rock and are unfamiliar with High School Musical, it is a journey of love through song and dance as a high schools star athlete unexpectedly falls for a beautiful, nerdy girl. A jealous classmate does all she can to ensure that the two never prosper as one all while dealing with the day to day drama of being high school learners.
The learners of Northcliff are hard at work to ensure that they put on quite the show. Jourdan said, “They are working hard at getting their ‘heads in the game’, as the song in the show goes, and I’m confident they’ll deliver an energetic production that both young and old will enjoy.”
The show officially opens at the school on 15 May and runs until 18 May, after which the entire cast, crew and all basketballs, will make their way down to Durban for their professional run at the Natal Playhouse from 18 to 23 June. “The run at the Natal Playhouse is when our school production takes the giant leap into the professional realm, to play out in a legendary theatre before a high expectation audience. It’s an invaluable experience for our students.”
