Impromptu teams bring home the trophy

VICTORY PARK – Public speaking team achieves big at the Speech and Drama College Speaking High School Festival contributed by the learners' time and effort, and hard work.

Public speaking at King David has taken the community by storm this year, and the Impromptu teams have truly excelled.

The school participated in the Speech and Drama College High School Public Speaking Festival at the beginning of their Term 1.

On the evening of 10 April, at the finals which were hosted by Crawford College, King David was awarded the Norah Taylor Trophy for Best Impromptu Team. This year at the festival 108 schools participated with King David coming first.

“This is a monumental moment for impromptu speaking at King David, as we last received this trophy in 2011. This extraordinary achievement would not have been possible if it were not for the remarkable number of hours that Dr van Zyl, coach of the Impromptu teams, put into training her teams for success.

“A special thanks and congratulations go to the individual students who gave of their time and effort and contributed to the success of KDVP this year. We are so proud that they brought the trophy back home to King David Victory Park,” said Nirvana Rogers campus marketing manager for the school.

Learners who participated in the festival from King David are Kira Fisher, Matthew Kimmelman, Amber Pencharz, Jenna Kaufman, Lauren Gruzd, Dan Rom, Danit Cohen, Bethia Milner, Amira Karstaedt, Jacob Berkowitz, Micayla Taylor, and Aerin Cohen.

The school also celebrated with Grade 11 learners, Danit Cohen, who was also awarded a Certificate of Excellence for her role as Master of Ceremonies by the Speech and Drama College. Cohen was the emcee for one of the public speaking evenings that was hosted by King David.
