RANDBURG – A lengthy jail term has been handed to a gun-wielding robber.

The detective work of Linden Police Stations officers yielded positive results as their work resulted in the conviction of an individual involved in the business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and pointing of a firearm.

The business robbery took place on 6 May 2018 in Linden. The complainant said that the accused came to his store’s till with a packet of cigarette pretending to be paying while his accomplices entered the store and allegedly robbed other people in the store. With their firearms, they demanded cash and cell phones. Fortunately, CSS Security came to the rescue but was only able to apprehend one of the suspects. The accused was then arrested by Linden police and detained there until his court appearance.

The Randburg Magistrate’s Court heard the matter and on 28 March sentenced the accused to the following:

The Station Commander of Linden Police Station, Colonel Ahmed Musthan, has welcomed the sentence and is very proud of his members for doing such a great job. According to the station’s spokesperson, Constable Takalani Matumba, the conviction of 48 years was all due to the hard work of Constable Manqele. She said, “Constable Manqele worked restlessly investigating the docket until the court convicted the arrested suspect.”
