MMC Michael Sun joins police to patrol Melville and Brixton

JOBURG – Police patrol the streets of Melville and Brixton.

Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun together with the South African Police Service (SAPS), Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and local CPF took to the streets of Melville and Brixton to patrol the hotspot areas following various complaints from residents.

The MMC said they received numerous complaints from residents about clubgoers who play loud music from their cars.

“The problem that the residents are facing is that a lot of clubgoers would hang around outside on the streets and open up their car boot and play loud music,” said Sun.

“Some would congest the small streets outside the club where residents live. There have been fights and we also received reports of gunshots in the area. This is becoming a nuisance for residents in the area.”

Sun also said the aim of the patrol is to make residential areas peaceful and safe.

“This operation will continue again this weekend. We will ensure that we have a safe environment not just for businesses only but also for the residents to have a peaceful residential life.

“I have always called upon business community and residents in the area to live in harmony. The businesses and patrons coming to the area must give respect to the local residents’ rights.”

Sun said the operation and police visibility in the hotspot areas will send a strong message to those who break the law.

“There was a lot of police visibility to ensure that we send a clear message that we will not tolerate any lawlessness in the area.”
