Ahmed Kathrada Foundation unveils information board in honour of his legacy in Westpark Cemetery

MONTGOMERY PARK – ANC veterans gather at Westpark Cemetery to mark the second anniversary of Ahmed Kathrada's passing.


To mark the second anniversary of struggle icon Ahmed Kathrada’s passing, the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation unveiled an information board in honour of his legacy in Westpark Cemetery.

Kathrada was a long-serving member of the African National Congress, affectionately know as ‘Kathy’ was one of the leaders of the resistance movement against the apartheid government, he passed away in 2017 after suffering a long illness.

Some of the attendees from the unveiling included Derek Hanekom, Minister of Tourism and Cheryl Carolus, ANC veteran who asked South Africans to stand united by using their power to vote in the national election on 8 May.

Kathrada was a fierce activist against racism and former public enterprise minister Barbara Hogan noted this during the event as the country tries to tackle the stem of racism and said, “Real South Africans are not spending enough time with each other even on an ethnic level.”
