Safety was the order of the day as the JMPD deployed 142 Metro police officers, 50 traffic wardens, 46 patrol cars, eight horses and two motorcycles at FNB stadium for Ed Sheeran’s concert.
Following the stampede and string of robberies that took place at the same venue last year during another concert, the event organisers, Big Concerts, and Metro police ensured that this year, concert-goers safety was a priority.
Attendees hailed JMPD’s good work and Big Concerts partnered with Uber to assist fans with safe trips back home.
@CoJPublicSafety @JoburgMPD I dealt with a number of your officials last night #EdSheeranSA. Everyone was patient, disciplined and in control. Great advertisement for #Johannesburg!

However, one Twitter user expressed her frustration with Uber drivers not wanting to transport people from the north of Johannesburg.
@Uber_RSA your drivers didn’t want to pick us up from the @edsheeran concert last night coz they only wanted Pretoria trips. We suffered coz we stay in the North and “trips weren’t worth taking people to the North” ????????♀️. System was even off, they were charging random prices.
