House fire destroys family home in the early hours of Sunday morning (10 March)

Fairland – House fire leaves a bickering couple homeless.


According to a statement released by the media liaison officer of Netcare 911, Shawn Herbst, when Netcare arrived at the scene, the house was well alight.

Herbst said that Netcare 911 received an emergency call of a house fire around 3.15am. When Netcare arrived at the scene, at Cornelis Street, Fairland, the Brixton Fire Department and the police were already at the scene. There were no injuries reported, therefore allowing the police and fire department to attend to the fire and victims.

Constable Michael Kgatla, spokesperson for the Fairland Police Station said, “We are not sure at the moment as to what caused the fire. We do know that a couple had a fight, the male went to the Fairland Police Station to report the matter but when he came back, he found the house on fire.”

Kgatla added that there were no children in the house when the fire happened. No injuries were reported to any of the occupants of the house either. He said the matter is still under investigation.
