ROOSEVELT PARK – Sešego Cares has reached a milestone in January this year – they have knitted and handed over 10 000 items.
The Busy Bees knitting group have been knitting clothes and blankets along with Sešego Cares for over nine years and this month they have reached a massive milestone by donating blankets, beanies, scarves, booties, jerseys, jackets, gloves and more.
There are about 50 ladies, mostly from Rose Village, who are assisted by knitters from Montgomery Haven who produce an average of seven or eight items every day. The group was involved in last years’ 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative and donated 82 beautiful scarves which then formed part of the world record-breaking 27.1 km long scarf.
Annemarie Mostert from Sešego Cares has been working with and supporting Busy Bees. She has been responsible for the purchase of the vast quantities of wool needed and for securing large financial donations which were used to upgrade and better the facilities at Rose Village. Rose Village is home to a small group of the knitters.
