King David Victory Park High School spends World Read Aloud Day with King David Ariel

VICTORY PARK – Learners showed that you're never too old to pick up a book and read it to a child for World Read Aloud Day.

VICTORY PARK – King David Victory Park High School participated in World Read Aloud Day on 1 February.

Their motto for the campaign was Dr Seuss’ quote, ‘You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child’. On this day around the world, people choose to read aloud together and share stories to advocate for literacy of reading as a human right that belongs to all.

Learners from King David Victory Park High School’s writing club, an extramural where the high school learners write stories, plays and poems and is led by Mrs Ronel Klatzkin, visited learners at King David Ariel to read to them.

Nirvana Rogers, campus marketing and admissions manager for King David Victory Park, said, “It was a huge success and the learners thoroughly enjoyed it. Reading aloud is one of the most important things a parent or caregiver can do with children of any age. Not only does it build a strong language foundation, it introduces vocabulary and helps to develop empathy, curiosity and critical thinking skills.”

Ariella Urdang one of the Grade 11 learners from the writing club said, “Reading to the children at Ariel was such an amazing feeling. They were not the only ones who learned a lot from the experience.”
