BRIXTON – Police state they have returned the body of the murdered UJ student back to the family.

The unfortunate story of a murdered University of Johannesburg student, as reported in the Northcliff Melville Times in the article Student stabbed to death over cell phone [Week ending 25 January], has taken the Brixton community on a rollercoaster of emotions.

Jeanette Backoff, spokesperson for the Brixton Police Station, is one of those who are still deeply hurt by the incident. Backoff said the body was finally returned to the family in KwaZulu-Natal and a funeral was held for the teenager.

Brixton police are still investigating the matter and no arrests have been made. They once again call on the public to share information on this senseless crime with the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Nawe on 011 248 5511/12. He has since been in constant contact with the mother of the deceased but is saddened by the fact that they do not have any positive details to give the family.

Backoff stated that police will continue to monitor the notorious Ripley Road in the near future. She said, “Our client service centre, sector managers and Crime Prevention Unit have regular patrols in and around UJ 24/7.”
