Johannesburg Mayor, Herman Mashaba, has on 6 February visited the Roosevelt Park substation to inspect its progress.
Mashaba was accompanied by MMC for Environmental and Infrastructure Services, Nico de Jager, to the site. The multimillion-rand upgrades had in the past sparked outrage among the residents it services due to power outages.
Mashaba has assured residents that the upgrade will reduce power outages in the areas it services.
“The team is assuring me that by end of August or beginning of September power outages are going to be history in the areas that are supplied by this substation,” said Mashaba.

Mashaba said the upgrade will be completed later this year and 60 per cent of the work has already been done.
