List of registered colleges and schools published to protect prospective students

JOBURG – Avoiding those fly-by-night colleges and schools.

The Department of Higher Education has published a list of registered tertiary institutions to help potential students avoid being taken advantage of.

It’s that time of the year again when former Grade 12 learners are looking for places for further their studies. While many have their eyes set on going to traditional universities and colleges, other will consider going to private institutions. To help these prospective students avoid becoming a victim of a fly-by-night school that will scam them, the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) has published a list of all registered institutions of higher learning.

It is during this time when prospective students are coerced into applying to false institutions while being promised recognised qualifications in a range of programmes, certificates, diplomas and degrees. The verified South African Government profile tweeted a series of tweets with one stating, “Good morning Mzansi, learners and parents are urged to be aware of bogus colleges when applying at institutions of higher learning.”

The Department of Higher Education pleads with the public to verify these institutions and their programmes before applying or paying for anything.
