Police launch domestic abuse campaign in line with the national 16 Days of Activism Against GBV

SOPHIATOWN – Police ask the public to report all forms of abuse to them.

Physical, emotional and sexual abuse faced by women and children in South Africa are among the highest in the world.

This is why initiatives such as the 16 Days of Activism against Woman and Child Abuse aim to bring awareness and action to stop such abuse.

Sophiatown Police Station and Metro police decided to show their support this year by handing out flowers and pamphlets to woman and children to raise awareness in the community.

Spokesperson for Sophiatown station, Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn said, “Many operations similar to this are planned to make the public aware that there is no excuse for domestic abuse.

The campaign that started on the 25th of November and ends on the 10th of December is held at an annual basis.”

De Bruyn went on to advice and remind the public that they should not hesitate in opening cases of abuse.

“The police urges the public to not be blinded by love but to report any form of domestic violence and child abuse to their nearest police station.”
