Linden CPF thanks the Victim Support Unit for the work done in the last year

LINDEN – CPF's Victim Support Unit hard at work.

The Linden Community Policing Forum (CPF) hosted their annual general meeting at the Linden Police Station.

The meeting on 17 October 2018gave the CPF a chance to reflect on the year the Victim Support Unit had.

The Victim Support unit provides emotional and psychological support to victims after a crime incident.

In the last financial year they gave trauma counselling to eight people and provided victim support to 27 people.

These crime incidents ranged from house robbery, hijacking, sexual assault, rape and other contact crimes. In total they were present at 30 crime scenes and hosted 14 counselling sessions.

They also shared that they will be inducting new volunteers to the unit in the new year.

They are ecstatic to have people in the community interested in dedicating their time and resources to help others.

The unit gives up to two sessions per victim free of charge. They did mention that if a victim needs more than two sessions they would be referred to a professional.

They also said that they would like people of different languages to apply as a victim support volunteer.

This is due to the fact that they sometimes struggle with counselling victims due to language barriers.

Regardless of this challenge t,he CPF has commended the team for all the hard work they do for the Linden policing precinct.
