Emmarentia Residents Association plan a clean-up for botanical gardens

EMMARENTIA – Cleaning up the gardens.

Emmarentia Residents Association and City Parks will join forces to conduct a clean-up at Johannesburg Botanical Gardens and the dog section of the park on 20 October.

Jenny Grice of the association’s environmental committee said, “We are going to be working with City Parks to pull out weeds [especially alien invasive plants], clear areas for picnicking, secure paths against erosion and more.”

The project will also coincide with the monthly A Re Sebetseng campaign hosted by the City.

For the project to be as impactful as the association hopes it to be, they will need the help of the community.

According to Grice, there are schools and Scout groups in the area that are interested in helping and have pledged their attendance on the day.

High school children that have community service they need to do are welcome to attend as community service letters will be issued.

“We hope that this will be the first of many events to help City Parks deal with a huge backlog in tasks.”
