Pikitup to return to normal after protests disrupted services

JOBURG – A sincere apology from Pikitup to residents.

Pikitup apologises to residents for not being able to carry out their duties due to protesting former workers.

Pikitup has struggled to resume with their operations due to protest action by some of their former employees, to which they apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Muzi Mkhwanazi, spokesperson of the waste management entity said their services were disrupted on 13 August as a result of former employees demanding their jobs back.
He said, “The disgruntled former employees blocked the exit gate to the depot despite there being a process to insource some of them, that is currently underway at the Hillbrow Recreational Centre.”

Pikitup’s operations were only able to continue once police and Metro police had dispersed the protesters.

Mkhwanazi said that efforts were being made to ensure that the following areas would be serviced by 14 August: Auckland Park, Brixton, Claremont, Coronationville, Crosby, Homestead Park, Hurst Hill, Langlaagte, Linden, Mayfair West, Martindale, Melville, Rossmore, Triomf, Waterval Flats, Westbury and Westdene.
