NEWLANDS – Local gymnasts do their country proud against Wales, Japan and Bangladesh.

Johannesburg Gymnastics Centre can boast the success of its gymnasts at the recent SA International against Bangladesh, Wales and Japan.

Seven gymnasts of the centre in Newlands represented their country – Jade Pailman, Garcelle Napier, Mammule Rankoe and Caitlyn Kelly were in the RSA B team, and Caitlin Rooskrantz, Nkazimlo Matyolo and Zelme Daries competed for the RSA A team and placed third in the team competition.

Furthermore, Rooskrantz placed third on bars and fifth on balance beam in the apparatus finals, and Daries placed fourth in the floor final with Kelly placing fourth in the bars final of this prestigious event.

Rooskrantz and Naveen Daries have also been selected by the South African Gymnastics Federation to attend the German National Training Camp from 1 to 8 September in Frankfurt, an opportunity both girls and coach Ilse Pelser

are very excited about.

“The Germans have really improved their gymnastics over the last few years and these two girls who are regarded as South Africa’s top two, are very excited and fortunate to have this wonderful training opportunity,” said Pelser.
