With house robberies on the rise, the police have provided these tips to prevent you from being a victim.
The police stated that there has been an increase in house robberies. I
n a recent interview with the station’s spokesperson, Constable Takalani Matumba, she said, “Due to the increase in house robbery cases in the area we have decided to warn residents about this trend. Residents need to take the relevant precautions to ensure they do not become victims of this crime.”
Matumba shares information on how to minimise the possibility of becoming house robbery victims.
Below are her tips:
- Be aware of possible shadows and blind spots on your property
- Ensure that all doors are locked and keys cannot be reached from outside
- Always make sure your alarm is activated when leaving the house
- Window bars, security doors and gates, barbed and razor wire, door peepholes and safety chains on doors are good additions to make to prevent easy access
- Ensure your property is well-lit at night; this improves the protection of your home
- Tools and equipment such as axes, spades, picks and ladders should be locked away when not in use. Criminals tend to use these to gain access to properties, thereby harming the occupants of a home
- Do not be visible in the bedroom when you are sleeping.
