Bouwer Bosch on this year’s Liefde by die Dam

EMMARENTIA – We get some details from Bouwer Bosch before this year's Liefde by die Dam concert at Emmarentia Dam on 5 August.

As this year’s Liefde by die Dam draws closer, we caught up with one of the performers – Randburg’s very own musician, singer-songwriter and actor, Bouwer Bosch, about what we can expect, what makes this annual concert so unique and how we can donate to the Blanket Drive.

Liefde by die Dam, set for 5 August at Emmarentia Dam, will once again showcase some of the best local music, including acts from Die Heuwels Fantasties, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Francois van Coke, Koos Kombuis, Elvis Blue, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Martin Bester and Schalk Bezuidenhout.

What do you think makes Liefde by die Dam unique?

I think the time of year makes it amazing. It’s an outside event that launches us into spring and makes you excited for summer. What’s sepcial, is that it is also a fun picnic day out that’s open to the whole family. The diverse lineup introduces music lovers to new sounds and artists in South Africa. That’s my favourite part.

What can we expect from your performance?

I like to make my set as fun as possible. Weirdly enough, I enjoy the parts between the songs where I can crack jokes and just engage with the crowd. My show is not serious at all and it’s just a sit-back-and-relax kind of show for 45 minutes.

Why do you think Emmarentia Dam, and more broadly, this part of Joburg, is the ideal setting for this concert?

I think Johannesburg is a friendly city and to have a massive park in the middle of Johannesburg is just a call for fun. I think the event is all about family and giving people from all walks of life a chance to enjoy a Sunday filled with great music and memories. Emmarenta Dam is very family friendly which makes this festival family inclusive.

Tell us more about the blanket drive at Liefde by die Dam?

Our plan is to gather as many blankets as we can get. The whole mission is to use this great event to create a culture of giving.

Which other artists on the Liefde by die Dam line-up are you looking forward to?

I’m very excited about Bongeziwe Mbandla, I love his music but have never seen him perform live. Koos Kombuis is also another legend that I think will be amazing.

The concert starts at 10am and there will be a delicious range of South Africa’s best artisan food traders. People can also bring their own picnic baskets.

Tickets start at R165 for adults, kids12 years and younger pay R75, and kids under three enter for free. VIP tickets are R595 and include VIP entrance, special view, free drinks and snacks. They are available through Computicket.
