Visitors galore for Coronation Training Centre this Mandela Day
NEWLANDS – Youngsters play and learn at the same time.
A local school spent Mandela Day with police, SPCA and emergency services where they learnt all about staying safe.
Children at the Coronation Training Centre had a day to remember when Nedbank organised a Mandela Day education festival at the school. The bank managed to get the police, SPCA and emergency services of the City of Johannesburg to come give the youngsters talks on safety and security.
Nedbank’s Wardah Peters said, “The day is about fun and education, hence the name educational festival. The children will be given a chance to play sports and get their faces painted between every presentation. They will also be given pamphlets on what to do in particular situations.”
The school playground was filled with laughter and energetic children during the breaks and children listened attentively when presentations were being made.
The youngsters at Coronation Training Centre particular enjoyed the lesson given to them by the Emergency Management Service’s (EMS).
This unique presentation introduced the young ones to the friendly dog Theuns. Theuns, with the help of Theresa de Klerk, put on a show for the children, telling and showing them how to stay safe in emergencies. Theuns also got to, literally, rub shoulders with some of the children, which they all enjoyed very much.
This is Nedbank’s second initiative with the school this year and comes after the bank adopted them as their school for community related projects.
According to Peters the event was a success and they plan to host more initiatives with the school.
