MTN strike to cause traffic delays on 14th Avenue

FAIRLAND – MTN strike planned for 13 July, residents urged to avoid the area.

The Fairland Police Station commander Lieutenant Colonel Clive de Freitas has warned residents and motorists of a strike that will take place at MTN’s head office on 13 July.

De Freitas said, “We have been advised of a strike at the MTN head office on 14th Avenue in Fairland on Friday 13th July.”

According to De Freitas, the strike is wage-related.

“It is a national strike through the whole country but because the head office is here, we are going to get the most attention. MTN is expecting more than 1 000 demonstrators there.”

He urged residents and commuters to avoid 14th Avenue between the N1 and Davidson Street in Fairland from 5am on the morning of the strike.

“Please leave a few minutes earlier and plan your route around this section of 14th Avenue.”
