Kingston Frost Park gets a splash of art for a good cause

BRIXTON – The painting of a mural at Kingston Frost Park keeps the community aware of the constitution

Balfour Lekgwathi, a member of the Auckland Park Residents Association, took the initiative to express his views and those of the community through the painting of a mural in Kingston Frost Park.

The aim of this mural is to promote constitutionalism which is a ‘complex of ideas, attitudes, and patterns of behaviour elaborating the principle that the authority of government derives from and is limited by a body of fundamental law’.

The mural promotes education, equality, human dignity and children’s rights.

Francis Ndou stands proudly in front of the mural.

The painting of the mural was sponsored by Business and Arts South Africa, which is an internationally recognised South African development agency with a suite of integrated programmes implemented nationally and internationally.

This development agency encourages mutually beneficial partnerships between business and the arts. JT Communications and Citywise, which is an Auckland Park-based mentoring charity, also sponsored the artwork.

“I worked with [fellow artists] Remembrance Nare and Francis Ndou on the project,” said Lekgwathi. “The project gives local artists the opportunity to show their skills. They can build their portfolio and by so doing they gain exposure.”
