SCP Security reaction officer survives a shootout and an accident after a heroic act

GREYMONT – Not all heroes wear capes

A heroic reaction officer from SCP Security is recovering after a rough night of shootouts and a car accident on the evening of 23 May.

Oscar Mlambo went out of his way to serve his community on Wednesday night when he tried to stop what appeared to be a car theft.

Piet Strydom, Oscar Mlambo and director of SCP Security, Clive Maher plan on reinforcing the security in the area.

There was a white Polo patrolling in the area that Mlambo found to be suspicious. He followed the Polo around until he lost sight of it.

Mlambo saw two suspects tampering with a parked silver-grey Toyota Yaris on Long Road. When he approached them they took off in the car.

Mlambo tried to follow the two suspects when he noticed the white Polo, he followed earlier in the night, behind him.

“I was boxed in. I was stuck between the Yaris I was chasing and being chased by the white Polo,” said Mlambo. “There were two suspects in the Yaris I was chasing and one of them opened fire while I was behind them.”

The Polo also started shooting at the company vehicle that Mlambo was driving in. While shooting, the Polo was bumping Mlambo’s vehicle during the high-speed chase, trying to get him off the road.

“The Polo behind him had been trying to force him off the road. What we have ascertained from the damage to the vehicle is that the Polo had intentionally nudged Oscar at the back so that he would lose control of the vehicle,” said Clive Maher, director of SCP Security.

The damage that happened when Oscar lost control of the vehicle.

Mlambo lost control of the car at the corner of Milner Avenue and John Adamson Drive.

“After the car crashed I saw the suspects approaching me. I was not very conscious at the time but I saw them coming. They thought I was unconscious but when I opened fire they fled,” said Mlambo.

Mlambo called for backup. Maher and other nearby reaction officers rushed to the scene.

Paramedics arrived and Mlambo was rushed to Milpark Hospital.

“Thankfully there were no life-threatening injuries and nothing had to be operated on. Oscar sustained minor injuries from the impact of the car crash to his back, shoulder, and neck,” said Maher.

“I think Oscar is very lucky. What he did was unbelievably commendable. There are not many people who would pursue suspects while being shot at. He did what he had to do. He is a very qualified reaction officer.”

“I want to thank all of my colleagues who came when I called for backup. The paramedics were very time efficient and I received good service at Milpark Hospital,” said Mlambo.

Reaction director Piet Strydom stands proudly with Oscar Mlambo.

Maher says that SCP Security has stepped up its game because of the actions that occurred that night. “We want them to know that we are coming after them harder than we ever have. We are not backing down,” said Maher
