Children collect shoes for Tekkie Tax Day
NORTHCLIFF – Charity starts at a young age.
A shoe donation initiative is being used to teach children to care about less-fortunate little ones.
Jaci Tibbit does not plan to stop helping others anytime soon. This came following the launch of her latest initiative Tekkie Tax Day.
Tibbit, the winner of Mrs Mzanzi Africa 2018, has been hard at work motivating people to purchase a R10 Tekkie Tax sticker and donate any older shoes they have lying around. All these donations will be given to children who aren’t fortunate enough to afford shoes.
Although the day is scheduled for 25 May, these children couldn’t wait to play their part in helping others and had their day on 24 May.
The children of Northcliff Pre-primary School and Appleseed Crèche and Nursery School were all on board to lend a helping hand to Tibbit.
The principal of the schools, Geraldine Rielly, shared why she wanted her schools to be part of this selfless act of giving.
She said, “We think it’s important to teach our children compassion, to give back and to think of others.”
She stressed the importance of learning such principles at a young age, “It’s never too early to start teaching them what charity means.”
Tibbit, Former Mrs Johannesburg, explained what will happen to the shoes she plans to collect.
“The shoes collected at Northcliff and Appleseed schools will go to underprivileged children. In the next few weeks, I will take them to an orphanage or distribute them to a school in Diepsloot.”
Tekkie Tax Day will have Tibbit, who was also announced Mrs Africa Humanity 2018, visiting 15 schools and multiple hospitals, vets and big companies on her shoe drive.
