Pikitup to deliver bins after a four month wait

JOBURG – End in sight for rubbish-bin problem

After a four-month delay in bin replacements, Pikitup announced they will be delivered by 30 May 2018.

According to a Pikitup spokesperson, Muzi Mkhawanazi, there has been an extremely large demand for their 240-litre bins.

Many residents have placed orders for bin replacements as their bins have been damaged or stolen.

There have been orders for additional bins, as well as for residential and commercial purposes. Mkhawanazi stated that the waste management service provider had run out of stock at the end of January 2018.

The wait for bins should be over soon as Mkhawanazi said, “Pikitup has placed an order to deal with the backlog and the bins should be delivered by 30 May 2018.”

He went on to share some advice for residents who are still waiting for their bins.

“Residents who don’t have bins should have logged a call and in the meantime, used refuse bags for their waste and still put it out on collection day.”

Pikitup will collect refuse bins not supplied by them only if Pikitup is not available.

Pikitup has also advised its staff to take plastic bags where there are no bins. Mkhawanazi urged residents not to put out plastic bags if they have bins. If residents believe one bin is not enough, they need to apply for an additional bin.

Residents are also advised that they can only dispose of clean, green waste and recyclables at their garden sites/drop off centres.

No domestic waste, such as food scraps, can be taken to their centre’s.

Due to the City and Pikitup running out of landfill space, Mkhawanazi has pleaded with residents to Rethink, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

He also condemns those who are involved in illegal dumping, which is on the rise.
