Walking off that chocolate at Alberts Farm

GREYMONT – Blame it on the bunny event a success

This weekend was a chance for some to shed the Easter holidays weight while walking their furry friends in the Alberts Farm Conservancy.

This comes as Paws R Us: SA hosted a Blame It On The Bunny event, all in an effort to help raise funds for the animal organisation.

The 5km trail walk saw locals with their dogs in support of the animal organisation, as well as many stalls.

Paws R Us: SA is a private organisation based in Midrand, with a full-time staff of eight women who take care of 220 dogs.

In a single day, more than 100kg of food is fed to the animals. The organisation also has rent and other expenses to worry about to help provide excellent service to the community.

Jenny Grimes from Paws R Us: SA said their organisation is pro-life, which means that they will not euthanise any animals for space.

“However, we can decline to take in an animal if we don’t have space, which is something other public animal organisations do not have the freedom to do,” said Grimes.

“Unfortunately, we are not very good at saying no with over 200 dogs to care for, but we can sometimes. Although our focus is mainly dogs, over the years, we’ve taken care of a few cats and we currently have cats that need to be rehomed.”

The organisation wants to stress to the community looking to have a pet in their home to rather adopt and not shop. “Go to your nearest shelter and you will find amazing, loving and caring animals looking for a home.

“We do have an adoption fee but that is because the dogs are sterilised, vaccinated and are micro-chipped.

“We have a passion for animals and invest so much in them, not only from a financial standpoint but emotionally too. When they go to a new home, we can tell the new owners about the nature of the dog and their different personalities because we love them.”
