Dead body discovered in Westdene

WESTDENE – Residents are left in shock after a neighbour's body is discovered on his bed.

A body of a man was discovered by neighbours in Westdene around 6pm on 7 April.

This according to the Westdene-Sophiatown Neighbourhood Watch chairperson, Dauw Steyn, who was alerted by residents, about a possible deceased person at a home on 2nd Avenue.

“The residents broke open his door after not seeing him since the day before. When I arrived on the scene I could see that he had been dead a few hours already. He was lying on the bed. It looked like he was about to undress when he passed away,” said Steyn.

He added that according to residents, he had been complaining about stomach cramps and was not feeling well. Delta Tactical Security and Sophiatown police were also called to the scene to assist.

“The cause of death is still unknown and the situation was handed to the Sophiatown police. Thanks to Delta Tactical Security for assistance as always,” said Steyn.

The Sophiatown police spokesperson, TJ de Bruyn, said the deceased died of natural causes. No case was opened.
