Diarise this date … no power on 25 March

JOBURG – A planned power outage will affect certain areas overnight with restoration expected the following morning.

City Power has planned a power interruption that will affect areas including Linden, Victory Park, Robindale and Blairgowrie on 25 March at 10pm.

City Power said the interruption is necessary to do essential maintenance work on the network. This is, it said, part of the entity’s programme of striving for better service delivery.

The interruption will continue until 6am the following Monday morning, 26 March.

For a full list of the areas that will be affected visit City Power.

Last month, residents experienced several unplanned power interruptions caused by storms, cable theft, vandalism and the natural wear and tear of electricity infrastructure.

MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Development, Nico de Jager, said the rainstorms and the winter months would present City Power with a challenge to provide a reliable supply of electricity to residents. The power utility is doing everything possible to prepare for the two seasons.

Power outages have long been a source of frustration for many Joburg residents.

After years of unplanned outages, Northcliff and surrounding residents will soon benefit from an upgraded substation.

But for the moment, the areas affected by faults at the Roosevelt Park Substation still often find themselves in the dark.
