Feral cats have been relocated from their initial home at the Worldwear Shopping Centre (Fairland Walk).
Fairland feral cats caregiver, Vivienne Jones feeds ferals in the area every night and provides them with pallets, which have food and blankets. She said she will be moving the ferals to the other side of the fence, due to the construction of a Checkers supermarket beginning soon.
“It’s going to be confusing for the ferals, however, I’ve moved their houses close to their original home. I felt that since there will be lots of activity and noise when construction begins, the ferals will have to get used to the changes.
The most important thing is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the ferals. Removing their visibility from Worldwear will keep them out of harm’s way,” said Jones.
Through her organisation, this year she continues selling books in order to raise funds for ferals. The fundraiser takes place at Heathway Shopping Centre every six weeks outside the Pick n Pay Supermarket. Currently, the book sale has a large following and she hopes more people will support her fundraiser.
“All books are donated, I would appreciate more donations of books which are second-hand and in good condition. We accept mostly novels of well-known authors and children’s books. The books range from R20 for the smaller ones and R40 for bigger books.”
She added a number of people who support the book sale bring books back after reading them, which generates good funds. Fairland feral cats are supported by some members of the community, however, most of the funding comes from her own pocket.
Bounty Hunters Charity Store is one of the donors and some of the proceeds which they raise are donated towards the ferals every month.
