R 200 000 worth of watches stolen during robbery at the World Wear Centre

FAIRLAND – The police investigate a robbery involving armed suspects at WW Watches, World Wear Centre (Fairland Walk).

A robbery took place at WW Watches at the World Wear Centre (Fairland Walk), involving armed suspects.

WW Watches employee, Bongani Mtshweni said on the day of the robbery, she and a colleague were working at the store.

A man walked in pretending to be a customer and was assisted with his shopping. The man chose a watch he liked and said he was going to the car to fetch his money to pay.

“While we were assisting him, there were two guys standing outside the store. After a few minutes, the man came back with a gun in his hands. When we saw the gun we ran to the storeroom to press the panic button. While we were in the room we could hear glass being broken; it all happened so fast,” said Mtshweni.

She added Beagle Watch Armed Response responded to the panic button and were there within five minutes.

“The centre is very quiet; we are concerned for our safety because this is the third robbery since I’ve worked here in the last four years,” said Mtshweni.

Meanwhile Fairland police spokesperson, constable Moloko Kgatla said six suspects stole watches to the value of R200 000, at 1.25pm on 25 February.

The store’s employees were present during the robbery and no one was injured during the incident.

“A security company called the Fairland police after the robbery took place. There have been a number of robberies at the same store in the past and unfortunately, no camera footage captured the incident,” said Kgatla.

He added no arrests have been made and the police are still investigating the matter. Anyone with further information should contact the police.
