Auckland Park’s gun wielding intruder on the run

AUCKLAND PARK – Detectives found clear fingerprints in the kitchen.

An Auckland Park resident who lives in Chislehurst Avenue outsmarted a robber who confronted her with a gun inside her house.

Adriana Nortje said she was in the lounge after lunch on 14 February when she heard a noise coming from the kitchen just before 2pm.

While she was walking to the lounge door a clean-shaven man – possibly in his late twenties – who was wearing a blue overall two piece and a beanie hat, opened the lounge door and pointed a gun at her.

“He spoke English with no noticeable accent, and said, ‘come here’,” said Nortje. “I immediately started screaming, turned around and ran to the front door as I feared for my life.

“While I was trying to open the door, the man grabbed me and tried to pull me back. Fortunately, I eventually managed to open the door and break free from his grip. I ran towards the gate and started screaming for help.”

The neighbours and other residents who had heard her screams came to investigate.

“I immediately phoned a security patrol vehicle. ADT and the police arrived within minutes and inspected the property inside and outside.”

The intruder was not on the property anymore. The police showed Nortje where the intruder entered the house through a small top window.

Shoe marks were visible on the window ledge. The detectives also found clear fingerprints in the kitchen.

Eyewitnesses in the neighbourhood told the police that they saw two men who jumped over the property wall and fled through the neighbour’s open gate.

They apparently jumped into a dark coloured sedan type ‘getaway’ vehicle that was waiting in the street. The car then sped off.

Brixton police confirmed that they were investigating the case.
