Brixton police start year on a high note

BRIXTON – The Brixton Police Station is determined to take criminals off the streets this year.

Brixton Police Station has been on a roll since the beginning of the year, setting the tone for the rest of the year for trespassers of the law.

Spokesperson for the station, Jeanette Backhoff confirmed that 264 arrests were made in January for various crimes.

The arrests include crime such as:

Backhoff explained that the station’s reservists, as well as security companies, played their part in the successes that were recorded.

She said police and security companies found two illegal firearms and ammunition after a Mayfair business robbery in addition to arresting the two suspects.

Mayfair was not the only area police and security personnel found illegal firearms and ammunition, they stopped and searched a suspicious person in Melville and found illegal firearms and ammunition in his possession as well.

Backhoff said these kinds of special operations are held on a regular basis with various other departments such as the Metro police, home affairs and, of course, the area’s security personnel in order to curb crime.

“Our station’s Crime Prevention sector managers also contribute with extra patrols and police visibility,” Backhoff said.

“We are very thankful to our officers, members, reservists and all other role players who strive to keep our community safe.”

Backhoff also urged community members to share any crime-related information with the station to inform them of which areas to target during their operations.
