Pot plant found after the holidaze

WESTDENE – The festive season was festive indeed as a tall dagga plant was found at the Westdene Dam Park.

Pot plants were taken to a whole new level at the Westdene Dam Park.

The Northcliff Melville Times visited the park for yet another site inspection after being informed by a concerned resident about a dagga plant growing in one of the park’s planters.

As the resident explained, the plant was growing strong and tall. This comes only days after the Times’ last site visit, which led to the discovery of used plastic bags containing dagga seeds.

The seeds were disposed of by Westdene/Sophiatown Residents’ Association chairperson, Dauw Steyn, who did not want to throw them in the park’s overflowing bins to avoid any dagga plants growing.

Ironically, a week later a plant was found not far from where the seeds were found.

When the Times enquired about whether or not the park has a drug problem or whether any incidents have been reported to the Sophiatown police, a spokesperson for the police, Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn, said that to his knowledge police have not been experiencing any problems at the park.

He added that he couldn’t recall the last time an incident was reported at the park.

The Northcliff Melville Times has since reported the plant and its location to the Sophiatown police to have it removed and destroyed.
