Don’t miss this workshop for child musicians

SOPHIATOWN – A music workshop from Sophiatown the Mix with love to child musicians this February.

Sophiatown the Mix is dedicating two days in February to local aspiring child musicians.

The Mix will be hosting a music workshop led by United Kingdom-based teacher and jazz musician, Raph Clarkson who is both a trombonist and composer.

For his visit to South Africa, he will be bringing together British and South African post-war jazz traditions.

Clarkson studied music at the Universities of York and Oxford and has since developed an eclectic music career ranging from jazz to contemporary classical as well as ska and reggae works.

He is best known as the trombonist for the award-winning jazz-punk ensemble WorldService Project that toured Europe, China, Japan and the United States.

While Clarkson loves playing, he also has a passion for teaching and has designed and delivered a number of projects in schools both in the United Kingdom and abroad. He is also the co-founder of the Be Creative Music organisation.

The workshop will take place from 17 to 18 February. Clarkson will be accepting children as young three-years-old to teenagers 16 years and under.

All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No experience is necessary for the workshop and should participants not have instruments, they can book the use of the Mix’s equipment.
