UJ’s online registration process fully operational

AUCKLAND PARK – The registration process at the University of Johannesburg has been smooth.

The registration process at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) has commenced with no interruptions since 8 January.

The online registration process went live for new and returning students.

By 9am on 10 January, the university call centre had handled 45 000 calls and
42 000 queries.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela visited the university and gained first-hand experience on the institution’s virtualised registrations operating system.

The university’s registrar, Professor Kinta Burger said by lunchtime on 10 January, the university had registered more than 5 500 students and the number kept growing every hour.

“This trend is aligned with the numbers seen in previous years, which confirms the new and returning students are comfortable with the online registration process,” said Prof. Burger.

“Initially, due to heavy traffic for online registration and registration-related enquiries, the system has been slow at times.”

She added that admissions to the university were competitive and they could only admit a limited number of students.

“UJ’s undergraduate applications for the 2018 academic year were recorded at close to 115 000 for 10 500 first-year spaces at the application deadline in 2017. The number of space available is in accordance with the formal enrolment plan approved by the Department of Higher Education and Training.”

The institution reiterated that it had an online late enquiry system for its study programmes that were not full yet. “The late enquiry system, the online chat system and UJ’s call centre offer our prospective students – near and far away – convenient access.”

All enquiries related to late application study programmes which have additional capacity for enrolment can be submitted online via the late enquiry icon on the university’s website.
