Ten baby boys and three girls will now celebrate their birthdays each year on this special day. The hospital’s Matron, Ruth Thomas, said that these numbers are still quite low compared to a normal day.

“On average we deliver between 20 and 30 babies a day,” she said.

These are normal births, cesearian births average around 10 to 15 a day. A hefty task for the public hospital.

One of the proud mothers, Brixton’s Faith Kufakunesu, said she did not expect to give birth to a New Year’s baby.

Her son, little Kae Mukudzei Mutemachani, came just after midnight, as the sisters predicted.

She and a few other mothers also received a congratulatory package from the hospital.
