As the world welcomes 2018, fireworks displays and celebrations are lighting up major cities across the globe.
Although countries like Samao and New Zealand are already in 2018, Joburg and other cities like London, New York and Los Angeles still have a bit more of 2017.
Islands like Baker Island off the west coast of the USA will be one of the last counties to welcome the New Year. By that time, it will already be around midday in South Africa.
As the world celebrates, Twitter is lighting up as well. The phrase ‘Happy New Year’ has been tweeted over two million times by 6.30pm.
