Rest and rejuvenation for Ward 89 residents

JOBURG – Ward 89 councillor talks wishes her ward rest and rejuvenation.

Rest and time with loved ones is what Ward 89 councillor Amelia Bester wishes for her residents this festive season.

Bester said, “This year had many an upheaval, especially with the Democratic Alliance (DA) winning the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality through a coalition.

“We suffered immense sabotage from a still very much ANC-aligned administration. This same administration bears the albatross of a severe skills shortage to make matters worse. The detrimental effect on service delivery cannot be overstated.”

Despite these challenges, she said the DA managed to establish ward committees and branch structures and passed resolutions pertaining to urban management in council.

One of the highlights she noted was the ward-based Integrated Development Planning submission in which an application was made for capital spending on infrastructure.

“Since the launch of Adopt a Spot, several residents and local businesses have shown interest in entering into memorandums of understanding with the City to aid in maintaining and keeping the area safe.

With regards to next year, Bester said she is looking forward to pursuing these ventures and others with fresh vigour next year.

“We are of the opinion that we can curb urban decay in this fashion. A heartfelt accolade to my residents’ associations across the ward for their valuable contribution to the quality of all of our lives and to Cynthia Graham, my right hand, for being one in a million.”

She wished residents a good rest and a safe return to work next year feeling revitalised and rejuvenated.
