A taste of Africa this Christmas

BLACKHEATH – The Urban Ethnic Market brings a taste of Africa right to the doorstep of Northcliffers.

The new Urban Ethnic Market on Beyers Naude Drive hosted an exciting African Christmas food tasting on 16 December.

The shop’s owner and practising lawyer, Lovelyn Bassie, has brought various traditional foods both from her home country Nigeria and other countries such as Ethiopia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo and Zambia.

Lovelyn Bassie owns an African food market in the heart of Blackheath.

Bassie said she saw an opportunity to formalise the African food market and decided to set up shop right in the heart of Blackheath and Northcliff.

“It is a one-stop store for all kinds of African foods, and even art and toiletries,” she said.

Bassie added that people could try out different foods that they may have never know existed. She said many of the delicacies such as dried fish could go well with any food.

The food tasting gave shoppers the opportunity to try out a new ingredient, perhaps even for their Christmas lunches.

The Urban Ethnic Market sells an array of traditional African foods not easily found in other food stores.
