Vox Pop: How does your family celebrate Christmas?

JOBURG – Community members share what their families do during on Christmas.

With Christmas around the corner, Northcliff Melville Times spoke to community members how they celebrate Christmas and whether or not they have any unusual or family-specific Christmas traditions.

This is what the community had to say …

RESEGO KUPI: Every year Christmas is celebrated with the family. We do the same thing every year and are usually surrounded by family.

ELSIE KRUGER: We usually go to church and have a nice family meal. The only thing that we do differently is we only get gifts for the kids.

NTSAKO CHAUKE: I don’t have any Chirstmas traditions other than to chill at home and watch Home Alone. I’m usually with my friends and not my family. We do have New Year’s traditions. All my old friends from high school and I meet up then party until we can’t anymore. It’s a good time.

MAMOKETE BOKHALE: We usually go to different houses on Christmas and get goodies like biscuits – we also give goodies. The neighbours would invite you over to eat and you would invite your neighbour as well. As kids, we used to dress up in our ‘Christmas best’ and show our friends what our parents got for us.
